THE ARTIST

About Fabi Cruz

Fabi Cruz is a French–Venezuelan artist based in Valencia, Spain, who composes with color and draws with sound. Her work emerges from a form of synesthesia called chromesthesia, that makes her see sound as geometry, colors, and movement. Guided by this inner translation, she builds bridges between the senses: turning melodies into motion, phonemes into shapes, and spaces into instruments.

Before devoting herself fully to her own creations, Fabi spent over a decade as part of the R&D and management team at the Atelier Cruz-Diez in Paris, the studio founded by her grandfather, kinetic artist Carlos Cruz-Diez. She also studied art at La Sorbonne, where she deepened her understanding of art history, art philosophy and traditional art mediums. Those experiences shaped her rigorous approach to craft and her belief that innovation begins where art, science, and play meet.

Today, Fabi’s practice blends traditional craftsmanship with technology. She works across prints, laser-cut wall pieces, resin sculptures, interactive sound canvases, and Augmented Reality experiences that invite viewers to “see sounds and hear colors.” Her ongoing project The Sound Alphabet transforms the phonemes of the Spanish language into animated abstract forms, each with its own musical signature.

In 2024, she was invited by the Centre Pompidou Málaga to design an immersive family workshop on Visual Music, featuring four interactive stations where participants could literally play with color and rhythm. Earlier works include video-mapping performances for Nuit Blanche Paris, projected onto the Cité de la Musique’s architecture, and three compositions for the Miami Symphony Orchestra, inspired by Zaha Hadid’s sculptural installation Elastika. Her pieces are part of the Museum of Latin American Art (MoLAA) permanent collection and have been shown in venues such as Galerie Bartoux Paris, Russafa Art Valencia, and international festivals like OVNi.

Each artwork Fabi creates—whether a tactile sound painting, an animated mural, or wearable art—is a small invitation into her synesthetic world.

A world where rhythm has shape, notes have color, and imagination hums quietly beneath the surface of everyday life.
